RENOWNED AUTHOR TO VISIT SENECA FALLS IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

SENECA FALLS, NY, March 8, 2010 – In celebration of National Women’s History Month, the National Women’s Hall of Fame, Red Tent Book Club, Seneca Falls Historical Society and Seneca Falls Library invite you to learn more about Hetty Green, ‘the Witch of Wall Street.’ Join us at the Seneca Falls Library (47 Cayuga Street) on March 23rd, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., as renowned author Charles Slack presents a talk about and book signing of his latest title, Hetty: The Genius and Madness of America’s First Female Tycoon.

Hetty Green, a woman who has remained as merely a footnote in history books, was widely regarded as the wealthiest woman in America at the time of her death in 1916. She left a fortune estimated conservatively at $100 million or about $1.6 billion today. Even more remarkable than the sheer bulk of her fortune was the fact that Hetty amassed the majority of it herself, generations before women swept through Wall Street and decades before they had the right to vote.

Charles Slack is the author of Noble Obsession: Charles Goodyear, Thomas Hancock, and the Race to Unlock the Greatest Industrial Secret of the Nineteenth Century, named one of the New York Public Library’s twenty-five “Books to Remember” for 2002, and Blue Fairways: Three Months, Sixty Courses, No Mulligans. His writing has appeared in many national magazines.

The event is free and open to the public. Copies of Hetty: The Genius and Madness of America’s First Female Tycoon will be available for $25.95 each.
