What is the National Women's Hall of Fame? The National Women's Hall of Fame is the nation's oldest membership organization dedicated to honoring and celebrating the achievements of distinguished American women. A not-for-profit educational institution, its programs include Induction Weekend, educational programs, and special exhibits and events. How do I order tickets for Induction Weekend? Tickets may be purchased by contacting the National Women's Hall of Fame at (315)568-8060. Tickets for our next Induction Weekend will become available for purchase in the Spring of 2011. Why is the National Women's Hall of Fame located in Seneca Falls, NY? Seneca Falls, New York is regarded as the birthplace of the American women's rights movement. Here, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott and 300 others gathered at the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848. The Declaration of Sentiments was presented, debated and passed by the convention. This Declaration included, among other demands, that women have the right to vote. The struggle for American women's rights had begun. In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote was passed. Also, in Seneca Falls in 1923, Alice Paul called for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. What is the Hall of Fame's mission? The mission of the National Women's Hall of Fame is "Showcasing great women...Inspiring all!" How are women chosen as Inductees? In order to be considered for induction, a woman must first be nominated. Anyone in the general public may nominate an American citizen or Native American for induction. The criteria for induction are set forth on the Hall's official nomination form. The form is available by mail or on the Hall's website at www.greatwomen.org. Nominations are fact checked and then sent to a national panel of judges for scoring. The panel of judges changes each year, and is made up of experts from a variety of fields. The judges' scoring is final and approximately the top 10 scorers are then selected for induction every other year. In order to maintain an objective process, the Staff and Board Members of the National Women's Hall of Fame do not participate as judges. How many women have been inducted into the Hall of Fame? There have been 236 women inducted into the Hall. Inductees are selected by a national panel of judges, who represent many disciplines and fields of expertise. Nominees may be living or deceased, but must be citizens of the United States. Their contributions should be of national or global importance and enduring value. What makes a good nomination? Nominations must be completely researched, with all questions answered fully and sources cited. Please be as objective as possible when writing a nomination. Supporting materials are not sent on to the judges, only the nomination form. Click here for nomination form. Does the Hall induct living or dead women? The National Women's Hall of Fame honors both living and deceased Inductees. Can the Hall help me contact one of the Inductees? The Hall does not share Inductee contact information. Can I use information and photographs from your website? How do I cite your website for my report?
